JACLYN RENEE WARREN
Jaclyn Renee Warren (b. 1999) is a composer, flutist, and piano technician from Rochester, NY, who works to craft pieces and programs that foster community between artists and audiences. She started composing at 16, and by 20, her works had been performed on three continents and commissioned by both students and professional orchestras. She completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Flute Performance at Roberts Wesleyan University, studying under Diane Smith, while taking composition lessons from media composer Seth Wright. She earned her Master’s Degree in Composition and Certificate of University Teaching at Syracuse University, studying composition under Nicolas Scherzinger and flute under Dana DiGennaro. Described as “inspiring, accessible, and distinctly her own,” her works have been performed at festivals and universities around the world, on classical and jazz radio, and she has been a guest speaker at festivals and universities throughout North America. Most recently, her work has been performed by Balance Campaign, the Society for New Music, at Songfest, and at Brass USA. Commissioners include the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, the Society for New Music, and the family of Leroy Anderson.
As a flutist, Jaclyn is passionate about performing works of living composers and commissioning new pieces for the flute. She enjoys putting together programs that will teach the audience about the extensive capabilities of the instrument and that will create conversations between herself and the audience. So far, she has commissioned eleven new works for the flute and performed fifteen world premieres. She has participated in masterclasses with teachers including Izzy Gleicher of the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE) and Grammy Award-winning flutist Rhonda Larson. She is also a member of Duo Scambio, a contemporary flute/piano duo.
Jaclyn enjoys teaching students of all ages. She has taught at Syracuse University and Roberts Wesleyan University, and writes Jazz Kidz articles for WGMC Jazz 90.1, which provides lessons and activities for families to do together to learn more about jazz artists. She frequently performs at local libraries and community centers, bringing picture books and flute music to children and families in her Flute Story Time concerts.
Jaclyn lives in downtown Rochester with her husband and daughter.
